Evening Star

Today’s image is of Blue Ridge Community College‘s Vice President of Technology, David Hutto, who performed an original guitar piece and video for the 2011 BRCC Talent Show sponsored by the Film Club at BRCC. I took over 200 photos while enjoying the show [which was hosted by Toni Lepanto and Jonny Kantner]. You can see the rest on my Flickr page.

9 boxes, 141 books. Yep, that’s a lot of books. Well, not really, but most of you may think so. :-) These books will soon be traded in for better books. And yes, the top edge of that one book is green [i simply "undid" the black & white treatment to that part of the photo in Aperture. I wanted to do something green for today, and that was a last minute idea [at 11:30pm! - that's me, always cuttin' it close!]

March 16, 1920, my Grandmother was born. She would have been 90 today, had she not passed away February 11th. I have very fond memories of her. Today’s photo is of a huge afghan she made for me long ago. It is insanely soft and could probably cover 2 people.

I have/had more to type, but am a bit wiped out from an eventful day, that I need to keep this short. Only 5 minutes left till midnight.

As eventful a day as it was, it could have been a lot worse, and I’d like to think that Grandma was watching over me today. :-)

Boxes have arrived! 400 of them, but too late for today’s shipments. I dare say it, since it will probably jinx me, but I had a fairly decent weekend, White Squirrel Books wise, and actually ran out of boxes. They were on order, however, to be delivered Monday [today]. But they arrived at 6:15pm, well after the day’s postal run. Most customers won’t see a delay as some books were packed in medium boxes [the ones pictured above are the small boxes] with extra padding, and those that couldn’t go in medium boxes received upgraded Priority Mail service and they will ship out Tuesday morning.

I think I’ll order another 400 of these smalls as I want this batch to go as quickly as the last!

Happy Birthday, Roland! Today he is officially 1 year old, born at the Brevard, NC Humane Society shelter. This guy is very smart – he can open doors! He’s a great little guy and he and Shadow get along great. Rocky took to him for a while at first, but seems to be a bit afraid of him now, as he can be a tad feisty. Thankfully Shadow is there to protect Rocky and be her body guard. :-)

Darkness in my room at 6:30pm tonight. I’ve had a headache most of the week, which is rare enough [i hardly get headaches], but it seems to have gotten worse today, so I tried to spend most of the day in bed and surrounding myself with warm water [it feels like a sinus headache, except that bright light makes it worse like a migraine]. So, today’s photo is looking out the window from my bed. Yeah, real exciting. That’s my Mac on a desk [nicknamed the Monolith], and the backyard of Pisgah Forest, NC. Hopefully I’ll have this headache conquered soon. It’s getting old.

Never buy EZQeust stuff. Never buy EZQuest stuff. As I tweeted earlier today, I shall hopefully remember that. This is one of two semi-functioning EZQuest Thunder Triple Interface POS boxes. And I don’t mean Point of Sale. One is supposed to put 2 hard drives in there and be able to run them in a RAID 0 configuration [my big mistake was mis-reading the description when i bought them - i thought they supported RAID 1 - RAID 0 offers no data protection and should not be considered RAID].

This photo shows the innards of the case with a replacement SATA cable since one of the ones that came with it was frayed at the end. The two units I purchased both seem to have faulty fans and both require the boxes to be turned on before plugging in a Firewire 800 [or 400 or USB2] cable into the device. One of them also seems to be more defective then the other.

And don’t get me started with their “support”. It doesn’t exist. Heck even their website’s support/downloads page is blank! Yeah, don’t buy EZQuest stuff. Don’t buy EZQuest stuff….

A misty mountain backyard greets me this afternoon. You can still see plenty of damage from February’s ice storm. The tree that’s broke right in front used to have a cool bird feeder on it. It also produced awesome blossoms every spring. Not sure that’s gonna happen this year.

This is what I see when I’m on the computer in the morning/afternoon. I’ll have to shoot a shot with the computer included. Soon all that brown ground cover will be gone, covered with ferns and the trees will be lush with life. Green North Carolina will make a comeback!

Clash of the Titans plays on my XM Radio. By far my favorite station on my XM, they play movie soundtracks and have the best interviews with Directors, Writers, and other behind the scenes movie people. Even a short 12 minute trip to the Post Office isn’t complete until a track or two from this station is listened to.
