Goodbye 2010

Goodbye 2010

And in a few hours, welcome, 2011. Yes, this site has been redesigned, but not everything is working or looking as I want it to. The search results page lacks the social icons below each entry. The social icons are stuck in alphabetical order. The calendar at the bottom of the site is formatted horribly [as is quoted text like in my December 21st entry]. I did not finish the new logo I was working on, so I squished my old logo in place. Oh yeah, the RSS feed isn’t feeding images now either! Yeah, that kinda stinks since this is my photo blog, and it would be nice to, oh, I don’t know, see photos in my RSS feed, right?

But hopefully I’ll fix all these issues [and more, like comments no longer nesting!] next week. I’m also working on my main site, vjl.org and my photography site, White Squirrel Photography [and its blog, which will have more technical and philosophical discussions about photography], plus major work on my software and bookstore sites [so much major work, that i'm not even going to link them here!]. So expect to hear a lot from me during 2011 as I get these sites online [we well as 18 other sites i'm building for friends!].

So, what’s this a photo of? Well, I was in need of suggestions, and Theresa suggested it via Twitter. Both of these cars will probably be driven a lot less in 2011. The Pink Beast is to be sold soon [$2,000 OBO - contact me or Theresa if interested] and the Little White Mazda is about to reach 300,000 miles so it may be time for a supplemental vehicle. So, to new beginnings – Happy New Year, y’all!

Prepping for a site redesign! Yes, I’m making some major changes to this site for 2011! I actually hope to debut it Friday afternoon, on the 31st. But here you get a sneak peak as today’s photo of the day, thanks to my trusty iPhone.

Today’s photo tastes a lot better than it looks. It is cold here, with the heat broken, so a shivering me took this image of some corn soup which tastes so good! But it doesn’t really look very appetizing here, eh? You’ll just have to trust me, it was great, and warmed me up good.

Yes, a cat photo. Sorry, but I couldn’t resist. I mean, look at him! Is he a furry owl with a deformed ear? I just love the shape of Shadow in this pic – looks so odd!

A very quickly-shot photo of a plant popping out of the snow on the hike up from the Blazer, which is still down at the bottom of the road here [too icy to go up the steep incline]. I should have shot more snow photos today, as the sky was very, very blue, but I’m still recovering from yesterday’s back issue and it still hurts quite a bit, but it does feel a bit better now. It is just about 9pm as I type this, and believe it or not, I’m off to bed. Very tiring day, as the drive in the Blazer, which is 4×4, was still tough due to a lot of ice on the roads. But all the weekend orders made it to the post office and Tuesday afternoon the roads should be in better shape!

Anyone know what kind of plant this is? I’d get my field guide down, but it is a bit high on the bookshelf and reaching up is not my strong point, currently!

Not the best day ever. Woke up this morning to my electric blanket controller burning and smoking. Then the power went out at 10:15am. It stayed out until 8:15pm except for 2 five-minute windows of power. It was 15 degrees F outside and 50 inside. These candles lit the dinner table.

Oh, and after going out in the snow, I came back home to brush the ice and snow off my pants and threw my back out, spending an hour on the cold cement of the garage. It still hurts a ton, but hopefully it’ll improve over the next few days. I’ve never done that to my back before. I never want to do that again, either!

‘Tis the season for black and red Christmas wrapping paper! And, as the tag says, “Let it snow!”. Christmas Day, we are supposed to be getting 1 to 2 inches of snow. I can’t wait!

Today used to be my favorite day of the year. That’s because many, many years ago, there was one occurrence of said day that was just amazing. I was a kid and I had the day off of school and spent it making Christmas cookies, Christmas ornaments [the kind that look a bit like cookies as you have to bake them in the oven], drew a ton of drawings [i used to draw a lot as a kid], and generally had one of those types of days that you remember for years and years.

This year, it was not one of those days, despite even visiting this way cool [and way overpriced] toy store in Brevard, NC. Yeah, the photo is nothing special. I didn’t think it would be the photo of the day, as I just snapped it for my Gowalla and Foursquare accounts. But, being in the non-photography mood lately, it was the best image of the day, sadly enough. And again, an iPhone image [i always tag my posts with what camera was used to take the image; just look below the row of sharing icons to find out].

Maybe the snow that’s coming will inspire me to shoot more than simple snapshots. In the meantime, y’all have to suffer my snapshots…

I’m a fan of my ceiling fan. Subject of a prior image, I still like to shoot it. Even with my phone.
